MacuHealth PLUS+ – AREDS2-Based Formulation

Take 4 Softgels daily, preferably with a meal.

MacuHealth PLUS+ is formulated on the basis of the AREDS2 study, published in 2013, for adults whose eye care professional has recommended an AREDS2-based supplement. Findings from AREDS2 included:

1. A statistically significant reduction of 9% in risk of progression to advanced AMD among participants receiving two of the three macular carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin), compared with participants not receiving these antioxidants.
2. Reducing zinc from 80mg to 25mg (as found in MacuHealth PLUS+) did not adversely affect the observed reduction in risk of progression.

MacuHealth PLUS+ = AREDS2* formulation, with two distinctions:

1. Zinc reduced from 80mg to 25mg, in line with the RDA (recommended dietary allowance). AREDS2* found no significant difference in outcomes between participants receiving 25mg of zinc and those receiving 80mg.
2. The addition of 10mg of Meso-Zeaxanthin, the third and centrally dominant macular carotenoid, supporting macular pigment.*
   The evidence base for supplementation favours an AREDS2* formulation using all three macular carotenoids in a MZ:L:Z (mg) ratio of 10:10:2.
