Product Information

About the Product

Optase Hylo Night is a preservative free eye ointment supplied in a 5 g (0.18 fl oz) tube, applied as a strip inside the lower eyelid. The active ingredients are white petrolatum and mineral oil 91.7 percent, lanolin 6.9 percent and light mineral oil 1.4 percent, all eye lubricants, and the inactive ingredients are retinol palmitate (vitamin A) and light liquid paraffin. The tube can be used for 6 months after opening.

This is the night time ocular lubricant category, an ointment rather than a drop, usually used once a day before going to bed. Because the ointment is thicker than a drop, vision will be impaired if it is applied during the day.

Uses

Optase Hylo Night is for use as a lubricant to prevent further irritation or to relieve dryness of the eye.

Active Ingredients

Active Ingredient Purpose
White Petrolatum and mineral oil (91.7%) Eye Lubricant
Lanolin (6.9%) Eye Lubricant
Light mineral oil (1.4%) Eye Lubricant

Inactive Ingredients

Retinol palmitate (Vitamin A), light liquid paraffin.

Allergen Information

The formula contains lanolin, a sheep wool derived ingredient, as an active.

How to Use

Usually used once a day before going to bed:

  1. Remove the protective cap.
  2. Tilt your head backwards and gently pull on the lower eyelid using a finger of one hand.
  3. With the other hand hold the tube in an upright position above the eye.
  4. Without touching the tip of the tube to your eye or eyelid, instill one strip of eye ointment into the gap formed between the eye and eyelid by gently squeezing on the tube.
  5. Close your eye gently then blink normally.
  6. Replace the cap firmly back onto the tube.

Do not use the ointment together with ophthalmic drugs. If both are needed, apply the ointment about 30 minutes after the other ophthalmic drug. There are no restrictions on use in children or in pregnant and breastfeeding women, and the tube should not be shared.

Warnings

For use in the eyes only.

When using this product:

  • do not touch tip of container to any surface to avoid contamination
  • replace cap after use

Stop use and ask doctor if:

  • if you experience eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness or irritation of the eye
  • if the condition worsens or persists for more than 72 hours

Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed get medical help or contact a poison control center right away.

Do not use the ointment when a hypersensitivity to one of its ingredients is known, and do not apply it while contact lenses are worn. If it is applied during the day vision will be impaired, so you should not drive, be near traffic, use machines or work in an unsecure environment during that time.

Storage

Store between 15 and 30 C (59 to 86 F). The shelf life is 3 years and the tube can be used for 6 months after opening. Do not use beyond the expiry date printed on the carton.

After 30 yrs, something finally works!

I have severe dry eyes, and recurrent corneal erosion, for about the last 30 yrs. The previous ointment I used still left me with intermittent episodes where I'd wake in the night, open my eyes, and my eyelids would stick to my eyes and rip a layer of cornea, causing severe pain. Since beginning this ointment, I have not had one single episode, in the space of about a month. I can't begin to tell you what this means for my quality of life! I feel such relief that I don't have to fear going to sleep every night. What a game changer!

    Optase works

The cream works and my eye has improved. I just wish that the optase tube were sturdier. It splits easily.

    Made my eyes worse

Did nothing for my eyes. No preservatives but no one should put petroleum in their eyes. Woke up with goopy eyes and did not stop watering all day

    Relief at last

I was having a horrible time post bilateral cataract surgery and capsulotomies. Eyes tearing all the time. Vision was suffering. I was frustrated and struggling at work reading files on the computer. So much better now.
